Note: Casper Struiwig was born in Nieuwe Boteringestraat, the son of Claas Struiwig and Geesjen ten Hoorn. He was baptized in the A-Kerk on November 30, 1698. In 1722 he married Anna Croons. There was little demand for independent sculptors around this time which meant they often worked with cabinetmakers and other craftsmen. They provided the decorative wood carvings for various works. Struiwig worked with cabinetmaker Jan Bitter snr, they made pulpits for Middelstum, Zuidbroek and Eilsum, among others. Struiwig also collaborated with the Groningen organ builder Albertus Antoni Hinsz, who helped him with the commission for sculptures and ornaments for church organs he restored e.g. Kampen.
